Ella West Vist

Ella West Vist
This morning in period 1 at school today we had the pleasure of meeting Ella West the author.
Ella West is a amazing writing she has write heaps of books but the main ones we was looking at today was Night Vision and Rain Fall. Her main job is being a journalist.
A fact about Ella West when she became a writing it took her 3 years to write her very first book, now it only takes her 2 months to her book done and write 50,000 words.

Ella spoke a bit about her book Night Vision, and Rain Fall.
I haven't personally read Night Vision and Rain Fall myself but what other people been saying it sound really interesting.

Night Vision is a about a murder, and a young girl who has this horrible sickness which make her not be able to go outside as her skin gets blister and everything if she sees sun or even just light in general. She gets these special glasses to wear at night time and she can see all sort of things in the dark, this is why the book is called Night Vision. She goes out to a farm which is right next to a forest and ends up going in the forest and there a car light on fire and everything and that becomes the crime.

Rain Fall is also another book which has a crime in it. Rain Fall is about a missing neighbour a missing boy which equals a murder. It's a bout these two young kids who ride horses along the beach each day. There also a murder that happens and brings all these new people to the children town. The kids both ride horses but then she finds out the truth about everything.

I really enjoyed getting the option to listen to Ella West speak about her books, and give us some information for us to have interest in the books for us wanting to go and read her books.
I like learning about heaps of information I never knew about.

Hurumanu - Science: Water Cycle

Science
The past few weeks we have been doing Science, we have done 3 experiments so far.
Our first one was where we had to draw the water cycle onto a plastic bag and then add all these things into the bag and also did another one for 2 big added more things.
Climate Chaos

Title

The water cycle

Purpose

To see how the water cycle works

Materials

Ex1.
Vivid
Plastic bag
Cold water
Blue food die
A person to draw the water cycle

Ex2.
Vivid
Plastic bag
Cold water
Blue food die
A person to draw the water cycle
Baking soda
Litmus paper

Steps

  1. Get one Plastic bag
  2. Get one vivid
  3. Draw the Water cycle one time on the plastic
  4. Go to the teacher
  5. Put 3 cm of water cold water
  6. Put 2 drops of blue food die
  7. Close the bag
  8. Get two pieces of double-sided tape
  9. Give the bag to the teacher
  10. hang it up on a window that has sunlight

  1. Exp2.
  2. Get one Plastic bag
  3. Get one vivid
  4. Draw the Water cycle one time on the plastic
  5. Go to the teacher
  6. Put 3 cm of water cold water
  7. Put 2 drops of blue food die
  8. Put one teaspoon of baking soda
  9. Get one piece of litmus paper
  10.  Close the bag
  11. Get two pieces of double-sided tape
  12. Give the bag to the teacher
  13. hang it up on a window that has sunlight

Conclusion

Exp1.
I think the outcome of this experiment will be, I think the bag will turn out a different colour to show that it is working. Or the blue food colouring will disappear out of the bag because of the water cycle.

exp2. I think the same for this experiment it will either the colour will disappear. The food colouring will change colour. There is baking soda in the second experiment I think that the water will disappear out of the bag.

First we draw the water cycle on the bag and then we filled up with water and then we put food diet and we close the bag and we got double-sided tape we put it on there for a while and then we took it off and then we gave it to me she harder to hang it up on the window that has somewhat so the water cycle would start to work.

The Water Cycle: Bag 1
CO2 Water Cycle: Bag 2
Acid
Desert Water Cycle
Bag 3
Does it cycle?
Small - Bag 1 did cycle. I give this a 2 = small because it did show the cycle but not a big amount of it. Small - Bag 2 doesn't cycle, I choose a 2 for this one because it didn't really cycle  but still had a fair enough amount  of water left over.
Amount of Water
Small - There is still a small decent about of water left in the bag. Small - There was still heaps of water left over in the bag.
Acidity
None - because it had no Acid in it. Small- There was a little bit of acid in there it works sort of and changed the colour of the paper we put into the bag.

Key: Water and acidity amount: 1 = none
2 = small
3 = large

Conclusion: In bag 1 after waiting couple weeks to see if anything changes, bag 1 did show the water cycle but I gave it a 2 ( Small ) because didn't have a big amount of it showing, but for water cycle 2 it didn't show the water cycle as much as bag 1 did but did still have a fair enough of water left over so I give it a 2, I really enjoyed this as was fun to do and learn about our water cycle.

C.I.P

C.I.P
In C.I.P today a group of us got the chance to cut the Ivy off the trees.
We got the chance to use some tools to cut the Ivy off the trees instead of us having to use our hands.  Some of the tools we got to use, was from one off our teachers that have kindly let us use, and some of the other tools was the schools or either donated to us.   The reason we are cutting the Ivy off all the trees is because the Ivy grows really fast, also the trees are really hard and very old. The main reason is because the Ivy is suffocating the trees and not letting the sun get to them.

In the morning on Wednesday's our class does Kiwi Kaha,
today in Kiwi Kaha we got given a word find to have done and completed by a certain amount of time but... the leaders who was taking Kiwi Kaha put music on a speaker and would through a ball around and also take our paper to try and distract us.  The main reason for this was because we was focusing on trying to avoid being distracted.

Hangi

Hangi
In Maori the past few weeks we have been learning about Hangi.
We learn that of course its made under the ground, then learnt what type of food they normally cook and how long it takes and what are the steps of make a Hangi.
After that we had to make a drawing of what the steps are of how to make the hangi and cooking the food.

Here is my drawing of the process for making one.

L.C

Learning Conference
Last week on Thursday we had our L.C we had to make a slide or a DLO showing our learning so that we can present it to our parents. In our DLO we had to put a blog post, learning story, Math, Spelling and a Task, and also our reading plus results. I didn't go to the learning conference but we still had to make a DLO explaining  what were been doing at school.

I decided to make a slide show about my work.
here is a link to my slide show I made.

Digi Tech

Digi Technology
For the past 8 weeks we have been doing Digi Technology, we had to find a issue on what to make a app abbot and find information.  My issue was drug use in the Olympics, I choose this issue as because I really enjoy sports but reading about people using drugs by cheating to make them faster or stronger I think that's a really unfair advantage for the other people who haven't cheating and I think it should stop.

Would you stop using people from using drugs in the Olympics??

This is the app I made..

This is the learning story we had to do about Digi Technology
\

I really enjoyed this 8 weeks as i got to use new apps and games and how to find out about the sports and what has been happening around the world.

C.I.P Gardening

C.I.P Gardening
In C.I.P last week we went down to the garden and moved all the tyres and looked through the classroom to see what we can change and do. Some people started move thing's out of the classroom and the rest of us moved the tyres and started taking the dirt off the mats to lift up the mats.

In C.I.P This week we went out to our school garden and 20 people starting take everything out of the classroom and 10 other people helped cut down tree's and the rest did the gardening part. If you was in the gardening part you had to to dig up the soil, and make a row down the garden where we are going to plant some things. Then some of us went and cut down some branches from the tree's and put them into a pile's.

The reason why we dugged up the dirt is to move around the soil so then we can plate new soil that is fresh and soft, then once we place the soil into the garden the plates with grow probably.

Why did we find so much worms when we dugged up the dirt?

The reason is because earthworms spend most of their days living underground in the soil and dirt, they surface at night order to feed on organic matter. Therefore you can collect the worms at night without have to dig in the day time. A shovel or small spade to move all the soil around or turn it over.

Why are worms good for soil?

Worms help to  increase the amount of air and water that get to the soil underground. They break down the organic matter, like leaves and grass into things that plants can use. When they eat they leave behind castings that are a very valuable type of fertiliser. Worms are like free farmer help.
